"Great"
Kalin Pashaliev (Editor in Chief -Music In Africa)

"Innosense invites listeners to go beyond their own frame of reference and tap into something bigger. It’s a journey through internal upheavals and the contradictions of life. Holistically, it provides a message of hope and beauty without the need for explicit verbal pornography – showing us that profound concepts are sometimes best carried by musical instruments alone"
Butchie Soroto - from the article 'Birth and Rebirth Inspire Duncan Souchon's Innosense'

"Really good"
Chris Orner (Music Source)

'Truly beautiful'
Glynnis Schutte (MUSE writer and photographer)

"An Absolute Gem"

Up and until the moment that I so graciously and kindly received this vinyl record from the zany Wentzel van der Gryp of @roastinrecords based in Cape Town with my most recent vinyl shipment, I had absolutely no idea this even existed. Surprises at Christmas time are always welcome, especially when they are totally unexpected! All songs on this album was composed by Souchon and the talented guest musicians that contributed constitutes some serious industry stalwarts:
Tony Cedras, Daniel Eppel, Dave Langeman, Thomas Cousins and last but not least, Steve Newman. Souchon and these five came together to create a new album of which they are saying is about finding a common understanding through music.
Souchon says the music was inspired by his unborn child. “I would play a song to the child for 20 minutes every night, and we would see the baby’s hand on the womb.
“It was a way to communicate and make the child feel calm. If my unborn son and I could do this, and then later again we as a group of diverse and wonderful musicians could do this again, maybe it can be the same for South Africans or even the world.”
The music has a beauty and serenity that is touching and explores an eclectic diversity of elements of jazz, folk, and jazz without becoming fully ensconced in any of these styles. “While each of us clearly brings a hybrid set of styles and genres into our playing, the whole album is thus also a gentle conversation between and across cultural and musical traditions. It’s a very Cape album, with its distinctive rhythms and melodies.”
The older I grow the more I am pausing for reflection and in particular when it comes to music. You should get to hear this album. A truly exceptional one.
